Joint disease, in particular wear and tear on the cartilage that covers the joint surfaces of joints, is one of the most common causes of lameness, stiffness, and reduced mobility in horses and ponies. It is commonly seen in older horses, but can affect horses with lighter work, as well as those with a tough training and/or competition program.
